JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Research Expert will be responsible for undertaking research in selected fields to increase the Association’s knowledge base. He/she will conduct relevant and appropriate data analysis, collate and prepare appropriate knowledge products and documents containing evidence-based assessments.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Determine areas of research to increase the knowledge base of LGAZ in consultation with the LGAZ staff.
  • ·Determine key information needs of the Local Authorities that enhance their operations and preparedness for devolution.
  • Undertake research using appropriate tools with the aim of providing information and analysis on policy issues on local government
  • Plan and perform experiments and surveys
  • Present Research Results
  • Assist the Association in the conceptualization and preparation of major policy issues and concerns.
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of written reports, briefs and position papers on issues affecting local government
  • Collaborate with research institutions and agencies and create mutual partnerships in research.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required from time to time

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s degree in research, social science or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in research.
  • Sound understanding of research methodologies.
  • Knowledge and experience of social research methods and statistical techniques
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to explain clearly and present confidently
  • Teamwork skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Good information and communication technologies (ICT) skills, including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet, email, and ability to use a variety of online platforms (e.g. Teams, Zoom, etc.).
  • Must be able to establish firm and reliable contacts with research institutions.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of professional experience preferably in the local government sector or related field
