The Copperbelt University is a public university established through an act of Parliament No. 19 of 1987. The University’s core business is Teaching, Research and Community engagement as a service to the nation. The University hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for appointment in the following positions:
DIRECTOR- DAG HAMMARSKJOLD INSTITUTE OF PEACE & CONFLICT STUDIES
REPORTS TO VICE CHANCELLOR
Job Purpose:
To develop and manage a series of research and policy dialogue programmes in the field of peace and conflict studies.
Statement of Main Duties:
- Establish collaborations with other research institutes and academic institutions active in the field of peace and conflict studies especially:
- Defence and Security management
- Diplomacy and Strategic studies
- Human rights, Governance and Peace Building
- Human Security and Development
- Environment Security and Sustainable Development as well as peace activities outlined in the living memorial initiative
- Conduct colloquiums, workshops , seminars and international conferences on peace, human rights and Conflict Management
- Design and conduct research in the field of peace and conflict studies especially in peace building
- Conduct research in the areas of Human Rights, Environment and Sustainable Development, Defence and Security
- Establish strong linkages with other programmes and dimensions of the Dag Hammarskjold Living Memorial Initiative
- Collaborate with local and international institutions in the areas of Peace, Human Rights and Conflict Management
- Conduct commissioned research
- Publish or cause to be published academic and professional articles in reputable journals, policy briefs, conference proceedings as well as books and popular media
Job Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 or Form V certificate with five (5) “O” level Credits which should include English
- A PhD Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Strategic Studies, Economics or other relevant cognitive discipline relevant to Peace and Conflict Studies
- A track record of publication in peer reviewed journals
- A senior academic with demonstrated experience in administrative leadership position/s in a research institute/ Think Tank
- Candidate must demonstrate experience and familiarity with current literature in peace and conflict issues
- At least five (5) years post qualification experience in research in a higher education institution or a research institute/ Think Tank.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required
- Result oriented person, able to set and achieve set targets
- Ability to inspire others to obtain intended results
- Good interpersonal skills and an excellent team player
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism
- Ability to work with staff from different professional ranks, academic disciplines and students
