Based in Lusaka, Zambia, Lusaka International Community School (LICS) is a co-educational, secular, fee-paying, non-profit school, which provides an internationally recognised education to a culturally diverse, globally-minded student body in a caring and supportive learning environment. LICS holds in high esteem its vision statement which is to âmaximise the potential of future world citizensâ.
LICS is a leading independent Pre-Primary, Primary, and Secondary School based in the leafy suburb of Roma in Lusaka, Zambia, and is a member of CIS, AISA, and ISAZ.
The school currently has an opening in the Primary School and is looking for a suitably qualified individual to join the LICS community in this role with effect 1 August 2022.
1. Requirements
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in and understanding of learners and how they learn.
- Implement effective planning, teaching, learning, assessment and data analysis.
- Demonstrate innovative and effective classroom practice.
- Create and maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
- Advocate and facilitate learner-led education as appropriate.
- Registration with a Teachersâ Accreditation / Registration Body.
2. Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelorâs degree, QTS, PGCE and/or PGCE at Primary level (or equivalent).
- Experience of teaching within the Primary range, KS1 or KS2.
- Proven ability and experience of teaching a whole class in a primary school.
- IT literacy and a thirst for continuous IT learning and experience of Google Educational Apps, Microsoft Office 365 and a wide variety of educational apps.
- Proven ability to write informative and accurate progress reports on learners.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven team player.
- Ability to set up the physical classroom to promote collaboration of learners and active learning.
- Experience of mindfulness programmes for young learners.
3. Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities
3.1 Academic
- Plan and prepare termly schemes of work, differentiating work for a range of learners.
- Â Set and mark work, assess, record, analyse and report the development, progress, and attainment of learners according to the schoolâs assessment policy.
- Prepare, assess, and invigilate learners assessments or external examinations.
- Actively promote âGlobal Citizenshipâ in the everyday classroom and through special projects.
- Through differentiated work and in cooperation with the Student Success Services (SSS) provide a stimulating environment that caters for all learners.
- Write informative reports to parents to impart up-to-date feedback on their childâs progress including setting targets.
- Upload data to tracking spreadsheets and systems as requested by the VPA and/or subject coordinators.
3.2Â Pastoral
- Maintain discipline (in line with the behaviour policy) to uphold the ethos of the school.
- Attend duties as scheduled with vigilance regarding learner safety and general behaviour.
- Safeguard the children and promote their well-being at all times, understanding how to work confidentially with the Designated Safeguarding Lead.
- Play a key role in the pastoral care of learners, being aware of learner needs and changes in behaviour.
- Register, monitor and report learner attendance.
- Provide guidance to learners on educational, social and emotional matters.
- Keep records of the personal and social needs of learners including incident records.
- Communicate and consult regularly and systematically with parents and others concerned with the welfare and progress of learners.
- Teach the schoolâs PSHE curriculum.
- Attend assemblies, parent-teacher conferences, orientation presentations and events as appropriate, sometimes after school hours.
3.3Â Professional Development
- Participate in the teacher appraisal system according to the Schoolâs appraisal policy.
- Participate in arrangements for further training and professional development as a teacher as appropriate.
3.4Â Staff Meetings
- Participate in all whole-staff meetings, weekly Primary Development Meetings, PD sessions, sometimes outside of school hours.
