INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

JSI Research and Training Institute, Inc. (JSI) seeks highly qualified and accomplished public health leaders, providers and support staff for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)-supported USAID DISCOVER-Health Project. The five-year project, which is led by JSI in collaboration with the Palladium Group, supports the Ministry of Health in the efficient and effective control of the HIV epidemic, malaria, childhood illnesses, and unplanned pregnancies in order to reduce associated morbidity and mortality. JSI is recruiting for the following positions:

Position

Position Title: Social Marketing Intern (02)

Position Type: 6 months

Location: Lusaka

Direct Supervisor: Social Marketing Director

Position Open to:  External Candidates

Scope of Work

The Social Marketing interns will rotate between the three units of sales and distribution, Social Behavior Change Communication and Social Marketing Research.

Research

  • Supervise and guide research assistants
  • Transcribe audio recordings for focus group discussions and key informant interviews,
  • Request for all required supplies necessary for conduct of field work
  • Run simple statistical summaries of key variables, create do file, clean data using STATA, Ms. Excel or any other quantitative analytical software
  • Produce mini weekly summary report of the week’s events regarding survey progress,
  • Immediately bring to the attention of the Research Manager any issues that arise in the field during surveys requiring the attention of the project leadership
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise in the field i.e. use of the tablets (mobile tools for data collection), audio recorders, conflict resolution, etc.
  • Contribute towards programming of surveys using mobile data collection tools i.e. surveyCTO, ODK, Kobo Collect, etc, and
  • Attend survey trainings, and
  • Other activities as requested by project leadership

Behaviour Change Communication

  • Media monitoring/Compiling Media monitoring reports
  • Assist in identifying and coordinating events in Lusaka
  • Liaising with media vendors
  • Oversee brand visibility in outlets, project sites by ensuring that
  • Marketing/Behaviour Change Communications materials are available
  • Perform any other SBC duties assigned
  • Identify and document success stories

Sales

  • Summarize the retailer classification/verification exercise data.
  • Profiling territories and traders.
  • Help in making the draft branding and national presence strategy (Outlet branding guidelines/) Social media marketing plans.
  • Work with Medical Detailer for local Sales and distribution

Required Qualifications:

  • Holder of either BA Demography, BA Statistics, BA Mass Communications BS. Marketing
  • Very good research background: grounded in both qualitative and quantitative research methods,
  • Attention to detail,
  • Graduated from a recognized University in Zambia
  • Able to work for the project for a period of six months (Lusaka)
