Workshop manager
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Maintenance: To oversee fleet’s maintenance within Zambia to ensure delivery on time and reduce downtime. Ensure adequate maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment in support of the Operations department and ensure minimal standing time. Creating a schedule for maintenance and ensuring maintenance is scheduled and down within the time limit.
Ensuring the whole fleet is in good condition by planning for their servicing and repairs.
See to it that the whole fleet is roadworthy as regards to Road Tax, Insurance, and Certificate of Fitness.
Workshop Controls and Reporting: To review all service orders before the commencement of work and inspect the quality of repairs and maintenance before the release of vehicles and ensure timely production of all relevant periodic workshop reports. To ensure all machinery, equipment and tools are accounted for
Maintain detailed records of vehicle servicing and inspection.
Control fuel usage
Budget Management and Cost Controls: To effectively manage the department and its objectives in line with the approved budgets (operational, capex and labor), assess variances as required and monitor remedial action within the span of control.
Continuous Improvement: To develop systems of monitoring workflows to anticipate impact of delays, subordinates’ awareness, and familiarity with new products and/or equipment. Drive initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improve productivity and reduce operating costs within the function
Manage strategies for greater fuel efficiency
Human Capital Management and Development: To promote teamwork, provide support, manage, and evaluate performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans and performance for subordinates. Conduct periodic performance reviews to ensure continuous improvement of subordinates’ performance and work organization, including mentorship and coaching initiatives.
Supervision of delegated tasks to all technicians in the workshop
Periodic performance reviews of subordinates
Supervise the drivers and ensure that they have the right documentation as drivers and educate them on their responsibilities regarding daily duties.
Supervise and control the drivers on their driving behaviors
Supervise and control fuel usage and make sure drivers adhere to fuel normal usage.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Diploma/Degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering
Certified Motor Vehicle Mechanic Class 1/Artisan
5-10 years’ experience in Fleet Management and Motor industry
Computer Literate -Microsoft packages/MSD 365 etc.
Member of Engineering Institution of Zambia
