About Generation Alive
Generation Alive (GAL) is a feminist organization made up of dynamic young women working towards the advancement of girls and women’s rights, with a special focus on leadership, leadership development, gender equality, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR). We promote equality and fight injustices towards women and girls that inhibit them from enjoying their rights.
GAL envisions a society in which all women, girls and young people enjoy their human rights and actively participate at all levels of decision making. Founded in 2010, GAL work focuses on building the collective voice, power, and influence of young women by building a movement of young feminists that will foster an enabling environment for young women to meaningfully participate at all levels of decision making.
About the Project
Project Title: Strengthening CSOs for the Promotion of a Safe and Secure Environment for Children and Young People
The project is being implemented in 4 districts of Central Province namely Chibombo, Chisamba, Kapiri Mposhi and Kabwe. The project has 5 implementation partners, and the project timeframe is from 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2024.
Overall impact: CSOs promote a safe and secure environment for children and young people in Central, Eastern and Luapula provinces of Zambia
Outcome 1: CSO, including, child/youth led organizations, networks, and platforms, have strengthened capacity and influence on governance processes at all levels/in the community.
Outcome 2: Duty bearers, parents have improved understanding on their responsibility for children’s (especially girls) rights and take action to support children, adolescents, and youth’s right to SRH and protection against violence.
Outcome 3: Children and young people, in particular girls, have increased knowledge and take informed action on their sexual and reproductive health.
Outcome 4: CSOs, other state and non-state actors actively participate in influencing the creation of a safe and secure environment for children and young people at national and local levels
GAL is one of the five implementation partners who will ensure project including the facilitation of capacity building sessions and influencing governance processes at all levels in the community in the areas of SRHR and youth governance.
GAL seeks a suitably qualified candidate for the position of Program Officer to be based in Kabwe to support the project. The Program Officer will be responsible for day-to-day management and implementation of program activities in the implementation areas. The Project Officer will also assist with implementing strategies to improve the achievements of the organization’s goals and objectives as well as resource mobilization for implementation. Subject to annual review and assessment of performance, they position contract will run until 2024.
Duty Station: Kabwe
Duties/Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but not limited to;
Project Management: 75%
- Act as GAL representative in the districts of implementation
- Oversee the successful implementation of the Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights project
- Planning, budgeting, and implementation of program activities
- Data collection, documentation and report writing
- Ensure Timely reporting and monitoring progress against targets and timely achievement of activities and processes
- Building and maintaining relationships with CSO network members and staff, Government officials and other regional and local organizations to assist with GAL’s mission
- Coordination and facilitation of sensitization workshops and providing on-going technical resources and information as required
- Execute program monitoring process for all projects including review of progress and expenditure reports, as needed
- Develop a clear plan, detailing a step-by-step process with well-defined tasks to ensure the team stays within timeline and strive to resolve any complications that might arise during programme implementation with support from the supervisor
- Support fundraising initiatives for program activities by contributing to identification and development of donor proposals and preparation or review of donor reports
- Research information for drafts of papers and policy briefs for influencing policy and increasing access to information and services for young persons
- Represent GAL at various local, national, and international meetings to ensure incorporation of GAL objectives into the agenda for discussion
- Any other duties as assigned
Business Development: 15%
- Build a pipeline of workplace programmes in the target district
- Resource mobilization
Monitoring and Evaluation: 10%
- Provide regular updates to Executive Director on progress and challenges in the field
- Ensure adherence to monitoring and evaluation framework
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in Development studies, social work or equivalent
- At least 2 years work experience
- Experience in project management and working in partnership is a key requirement
- Conversant with SRHR for young people
- Previous experience in working with young people and in communities an added advantage
Competencies
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to communicate fluently and effectively in English and local languages
- Excellent communications skills
- Ability to write programmatic reports and technical documents
- Computer literate
- Must possess a driver’s licence
