Details of Lubambe Copper Mine Vacancy Positions & How to Apply.

Lubambe Copper Mine is located within the Greater Konkola Area of the Zambian Copperbelt and consists of a large – scale mining license covering an area of approximately 228 square kilometres.

Completed and commissioned in 2012, Lubambe is an underground operation supported by a shaft and decline access with a 2.5 million tonne per annum capacity ore concentrator. The mine’s current depth is 450meters producing a high-grade copper concentrate which is then treated at Zambian smelters.

The mine currently employs 1, 125 direct employees, a further 800 contractors. It places the highest priority on safety with a world class safety system.

Supporting local communities and suppliers is a key business focus of the mine.

EMR Capital owns an 80% controlling interest in Lubambe while ZCCM-IH owns 20%.

The Mine seeks to employ experienced and qualified individuals in the following positions:

SENIOR VENTILATION ENGINEER (x1)

This position reports to the Mine Engineering Specialist

Core Purpose of the Position

To design and oversee the effective functioning and monitoring of air ventilation systems across the entire underground mine site.

Key Performance Areas/Indicators (KPA/Is): 

  • Eliminate FACs, MTCs, LTIs and Fatalities by promoting highest safety standards within and beyond the scope of mine ventilation requirements within the Lubambe SHEQ guidelines and other official safety initiatives.
  • Responsible for the design, evaluation, monitoring and implementation of the ventilation strategy for the long and short term.
  • Responsible for the design, maintenance and calibration of the VentSim model.
  • Provide adequate ventilation to places where persons are travelling and working above the minimum prescribed and negotiate best prices as appropriate.
  • Manage the systematic sampling and auditing of ventilation systems to ensure compliance.
  • Manage the construction of complex air circuit networks for new and/or existing production areas and mine sites.
  • Participate in mine planning meetings to ensure ventilation infrastructure is installed in a timely as not to delay mining operations Oversee the monitoring and maintenance of all air ventilation installations.
  • Issue recommendations and deviation reports to operating officials to ensure compliance.
  • Recommend and prepare justifications for the purchase of ventilation equipment as required.
  • Conduct costing and time analyses related to ventilation initiatives, for budget and day to day operations.
  • Legal Compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to mining regulations part 9.
  • Ensures both air quality and quantity meet and/or exceeds regulatory requirements to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all mine production employees.
  • Submission of quarterly reports to MSD and any other reports as may be requested.
  • Commit to continued professional development by reading current publications, speaking to field experts, and attending conferences regularly.
  • Work to identify cost improvements or reduction through relational building with suppliers.
  • Develop and mentor subordinates: Ventilation Engineer and Ventilation Officers

Academic Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree Mine Engineering specialising in Ventilation (Engineering)/Diploma in Mine Ventilation from a recognised institution.
  • Must be a member EIZ and ERB
  • Proficient use of VentSim computer software
  • Minimum of 8 years ventilation engineering experience.
  • Mining department

  • Technical department sub-sections (Geology, Survey, Geotechnical, Mine planning)
  • Ability to perform extensive mathematical hand calculations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be a team player
  • Stress and time management skills
  • Superior technical and analytical skills
