Reporting to: Process Plant Manager

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa.

Role Summary

Reporting to Process Plant Manager, you will be responsible to provide leadership of the Mechanical maintenance, Electrical and Planning & Reliability team that delivers equipment availabilities that support the operations to achieve production targets safely at lowest life cycle cost.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the positive and effective implementation of LMC’s OH&S policy and procedures and overarching statutory requirements.
  • Lead compliance with LMC’s environmental and social policies and procedures and overarching statutory requirements.
  • Review/develop/implement and lead OEMs maintenance.
  • Lead and ensure the achievement of the availability and reliability targets and all contractual obligations are met
  • Ensure OEM’s adhere to reporting and planning obligations per the MARCs.
  • Responsible for management and preparation of detailed and realistic maintenance work schedules.
  • Responsible for Mechanical, electrical and Planning & Reliability of the Plant
  • Ensure the plant availability and reliability targets are met
  • Establish short and long-term budgets to accurately forecast the production performance and efficiency of the Process Dept business unit. Ensure compliance with these forecasts by regular monitoring, control and acting to correct negative deviations and to take advantage of opportunity.
  • Participate fully in structured business improvement programs to identify opportunities and implement strategies to deliver improved performance

To be considered for the role of Plant Engineering Manager, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Industrial Engineering
  • Member of the Zambian Institute of Engineers
  • Minimum of 15 years mining experiencefocused fixed plant and mobile equipment with 5 years at similar level or higher
  •  Demonstrated experience in Processing plant operations utilising large-scale mining equipment
  • Demonstrated experience working with OEM’s and managing contracts
  • Demonstrated experience in asset management, project management and cost management
  • Be physically fit and be able to pass a pre-employment medical examination
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as a change agent.
  • Demonstrated ability to improve a department’s safety awareness.
  • High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in Zambia.
  • Experience in managing department costs and budgeting
  • Demonstrated application of continuous improvement ideas
