Details of Innovations for Poverty Action Vacancy Positions & How to Apply.

Job title: Specimen Collector 

Reports to: Field Manager

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit organization that creates and evaluates solutions to social and development problems and works to scale up successful ideas through implementation and dissemination to policymakers, practitioners, investors, and donors.

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) Zambia seeks qualified and suitable candidates to join the IPA Zambia Research Team as Specimen Collector.

The Specimen Collector is primarily responsible for collecting Specimen. He/ she has direct contact with participants and have a significant bearing on the quality of specimen collection and ultimately on the quality of data output.

Responsibilities:

  • Safe specimen collection and handling for the specific project,
  • Submit completed specimen to the supervisor and discuss developments daily,
  • Report any complication during specimen collection to the Field Manager or Research coordinator as soon as he/she identifies the problem,
  • Safe handling and keeping of collected specimens and used instruments,
  • Effectively communicate the research to all participants in an easy to understand language.

Education/Work Experience/Requirements:

  • Must have at least a Certificate in phlebotomy or nursing degree.
  • Extensive experience conducting blood draws on infants.
  • Experience performing rectal swabs on infants.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.
  • He/she must be physically fit.
  • Good listening, analytical and probing Skills.
  • Fluent in any Bemba, Nyanja and English.
  • Previous work on research studies is a plus.
